After attending last years conference and greatly enjoying all the sessions and then hearing about how this years conference was going to be bigger and better I thought wow, cool; how can they make it even bigger than that?!?
The answer is to make it a doubled streamed event; meaning that there will be times where sessions are run simultaneously; meaning that I have some big decisions to make! With the choice of two great sessions how can you even start to pick!?!?
Jon Hicks, Cameron Moll, and Veerle Pieters v Jeremy Keith
For me this should be an easy choice - design v code. If I am anything I am a coder; and having had dealings with Jeremy Keith in the past (we have clear:left creating a sub-site for us at the moment) it’s always nice to learn from the master! At the end of the day I do like good design and would really like to improve my design skills - but I can’t draw; its the whole point I starting coding in the first place so its a win for Jeremy!
Chris Wilson v Dave Shea
IE7 or typography?!?!?! I think this is going to be the hardest choice for me. I’ve met Dave at a previous Geek Dinner and find his love for good design refreshing but learning about IE7, which is bound to have a huge impact on how I work over the next few years, is bound to be a god send. As work are paying for me to go I think I had best go for the IE7, so Chris wins!
Andy Clarke, Patrick Lauke, Gez Lemon, and Ian Lloyd v Andy Budd
If this was a fist fight clearly Andy would be struggling; a 4 on 1 battle, how is that fair!?!?! The new WCAG guidelines have already come under a fair bit of heat from various people, most notoriously Joe Clark in his article at A List Apart. so I do worry is that the Andy Clarke session may turn more into a ‘lets sglag WCAG off session’ and this is leading me to think that Andy Budd gets the win (this may well change though so read the @media review to see were I ended up!
Cameron Adams, Peter-Paul Koch, Stuart Langridge, Dan Webb, and Simon Willison v Robin Christopherson
For me last years conferece was all about Robin Christopherson - it was first time I had actually seen someone use the assistive technologies I try and code my pages to work in and it was amazing! Now of cause I doubt most normal users would have his level of knowledge about screen readers but still - it was awesome. Therefore I think the javaScripter in me will have to be held up just for this session. A win for Robin; but can he keep up last years high standards!?!?!
Cameron Moll v Molly E. Holzschlag
Here we have two heavyweights - though really I am not so into either of thier talks. I know, I know; maybe this is rather a hrash thing to say, its also probably showing my stupidity but with all the stuff I do have to worry about this would just make me worry more about my skill levels! Really I think it will be decided on a coin toss - and currently thats meaning Cameron wins!
Rachel Andrew, Roger Johansson, Dave Shea v Nate Koechley
OK - for once I am going to blow my own trumpet (this may never happen again!) I think I manage my CSS once they go into production pretty well - this was one of the things I learnt from last year :> So to cut the crap its a win for Nate; getting an insight into Yahoo!’s inner workings will also be cool.
Andy Clarke v Tantek Çelik
Microformats - I like the idea but just don’t get the reality. But I am drawn towards Andy’s presentation. This is my last chance to see one of the creative presentations and I think I should go for it. There is enough about Microformats on the web already that I should be able to brush up as and when needed….. Andy you get the W!
So there you go; thats @media sorted - all I have to do now is turn up on time, register and get seated!
I hope that ultimatly whichever presentations I choose they will be awesome - I’m also hoping that the technoilogy of podcasts will allow me to revisit the ones that I missed (Patrick and Co - get it done!!!)
