GIF’s – can they be cool again!!

We all know the bad reputation that animtaed GIFs have got over the past few years – I mean look at this kinda shit and you can see what I mean – in WHAT circumstance would you need an animated image of a kid going into a desk – no one would!! I have to say that I have always liked them though; you just have to use them correctly just like whoever created this website for Yes Insurance has done. Read more

when to stop complaining…

Over the past few days I have been reading with interest articles by Paul Boag and then John Oxton talking about people being over critical of work they do (“it doesn’t validate”, “the menu button’s are a little bit off in IE4″, “the CSS is a bit of a state”) which is in the public domain and therefore of cause open for such criticism if people see fit.

I had to read these with interest – I now I have been a bit guilty of this in the past Read more

when javaScript goes wrong

Everyone loves JavaScript now don’t they!?!

It seems that every couple of weeks I see a new fully web 2.0 application spring up which after a while you wonder how you could ever live without; I have started using the new Yahoo! mail with all its drag and drop fun constantly and without (many) hitches, plan to create an interactive Google map for the LSBU website and constantly enjoy looking into the possibilities which the main 4 JavaScript libraries provide developers – I’m like a big kid in a candy shop!

With all this fun stuff going on I can see the fact that people are clearly going to get excited and use this available functionality as much as possible in their sites to ensure it looks professional, cool and up-to-date – but haven’t we actually been here before?? Read more

@media – day 2

After the exploits of the night before and openning day of the conference I arrived at day 2 certainly in not the state I would have hoped for; lets be honest I was fucking hung-over and the walk to the venue hadn’t helped clear any cobwebs! However with a packed day ahead of me I sucked it up, got to drinking water, consumed a number of sandwiches (which I still believe are the BEST hangover cure) and made my way to my seat for the second and final day to start. I think I will remember this day for a long time to come as one of the best since moving back to London Read more

@media – day 1

For me (and quite a few other people it seemed) @media technically started last night at the pre-conference party. As usual I did rather over indulge in the old drink so while I was extremely keen to I couldn’t actually do any kind of review of the event, what happened and who I met – while I could try it wouldn’t make a lick of sense. In a nutshell it was a big piss-up with a selection of savoury snacks – fantastic!

Thankfully for everyone involved I am in a much better state tonight, me and a few conference mates went for a curry and it has done as all good curries should do stemmed any kinda of drink stupor – again I must say fantastic. This means I can now reviews the days events in a way which will (hopefully) make sense, it was a great day so I would like to do it the credit it deserves. Read more
