Chakalaka – eaten and reviewed

With the days getting darker, colder, wetter and all together more depressing and my time in South Africa feeling all the more a distant memory I thought now was probably the best time to start of my restaurant quest and get the memories of my awesome holiday flowing back to me like the salt river I got stuck on the wrong side of by popping down to Putney to sample the South African delights of Chakalaka (try saying after a few drinks – I did and got some rather bizarre results!) theCSSdiv and drinks (with added wax)

As we are soon coming into the festive season (and I do mean coming – I refuse to think that Xmas is around the corner until December is upon us and I start getting chocolates every morning in my advent calendar) I have decided that the Xmas cheer can be best displayed via a good old knees up, arranged by myself in a lovely London venue.

In this case I have gone for the rather awesome looking Bavarian Beer House, near Old Street station on the 20th December from around 6pm; all I need say is that there will be beer served by the litre! If this is enough to get you excited and wanting to register then please do, I am using eventWax to provide the registration and up to now am loving how easy it is to arrange events online with it; please register your interest!! It will certainly be a great event Read more

The 2007 restaurant wish-list

With the brand spanking new TimeOut Eating Guide 2007 in my hands I can finally produce my restaurant wish list for the upcoming year.

I love going out eating, its always good to get out of the house and see new places; equally as I hate washing up its also a good opportunity to miss out on that thankless chore once in a while and treat myself to a night of culinary enjoyment, though I will admit my wallet does sometimes complain (or may that be the drink playing tricks on me again!?!?). My restaurant wish list is gained from flicking through the TimeOut guide, seeing what takes my fancy then picking the best of those out so I can treat myself to one a month for the rest of the year; unfortunately this time around I could only cut it down to 15 so I will have to double up for a couple of months and live like a hermit – that’s all fine in the name of food! Essentially I want to find some of the best places to eat in London and then recommend them to you; I have gone for a selection of over 10 different cuisines so hopefully there is something for everyone.

To get your taste buds going I am publishing my list for next year (though I will be starting this month now – I have no idea of order yet and can be swayed it you want me to check out places before you go there, or indeed fancy going there because you like the idea of it!!) Read more

A good restaurant – Benares

After having indulged my work colleagues to an awesome cake a few days earlier I thought it was high time that I actually treated myself to something – it was my birthday of cause!

I decided to book a table at a restaurant I have had my eye on since seeing the head chef on “The Great British Menu” and having also sampled their food at the Taste of London festival. I booked up, got looking nice and clean and tidy (and in my opinion pretty damb fine) and headed off to Berkley Square to Benares restaurant. Read more

The Taste of London festival

What with all the @media 2006 heat going on during the week – and the nice additional meet up on the Saturday (in which I did feel that my jokes were going down well, probably due to beer!) Either ways with all this fun it was very easy to forget that I had booked up the attend the Taste of London Festival; 40 of London’s top restaurants providing sample courses from their menu’s as well as a number of additional stands containing food produce, cookery books, cookery prsentations, beer sampling :> AND The World Cheese Awards – what more could I ask for?!!?
